HEMSTED FOREST

LOTS AND LOTS OF TREES(TO BE EXPECTED REALLY)

Just past Benenden Hospital,a nice parking area and well managed paths and roads.
An overnight frost at -7C made it a cold start, but mercifully,no wind.We RV'd at the car park following and overshoot and go-round.As the forest is self-contained right to roam,we didn't pay much attention to mapreading, but just followed the paths wherever they went.the sun was breaking through the trees and provided the only external warmth, and it was most welcome.
On reaching the northern boundary of the wood, instead of continuing across country,we turned back and criss-crossed the main path, through the trees.
We did a leisurely 5.5 miles (5 of us)and were glad to get back to some heat.
p.s. someone forgot their boots and gloves -oh dear

  1. Hi Gordon

Know the Forest well, one of my favoured spots for Crossbills - in fact got my first ever Crossbills in the big tree on the right at the bottom of the sloping track on the 3rd from last photo...remember that tree very well! Any luck with any birds while you were out there ;-) Have a great Christmas, looking forward to 2010 blogs.
